Christmas Songbook

The King’s Singers follow their recent Great American Songbook album with the Christmas equivalent, on a disc that pays homage to the group’s roots whilst acknowledging their current passion for swing.

How Fair Thou Art: Biblical Passions by Palestrina

The King’s Singers return with a new early-music recording that features 12 of Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina’s beautiful polyphonic choral settings of the ‘Canticum Canticorum’ – better known as ‘The Song of Songs’ or Canticles, a collection of poetry in the Hebrew Bible on the theme of the joy and ecstasy of human love. These settings are framed by four of Palestrina’s Marian motets.

Christmas Presence

Recorded live in King’s College Chapel, Cambridge on 4 December 2015, join The King’s Singers in their spiritual home as they offer you their Christmas Presence.

Thou, My Love, Art Fair – Bob Chilcott

Due to popular demand, this live recording of Bob Chilcott’s Thou, My Love, Art Fair has been released as a digital single. The piece was commissioned by the Minnesota Commissioning Club to honour Jerry and Cathie Fischer, firm friends and supporters of The King’s Singers, for a concert in aid of the Park Nicollet Frauenshuh Cancer Centre.

Il Trionfo di Dori

The madrigal, that most polished form of secular choral music, first emerged in Italy in the 1530s, supplanting a rather more unsophisticated repertoire of secular songs. Italian madrigal composers were soon vying with on another to express the meaning of the text as fully as possible through their music. Most madrigals spoke of love and mythology, reflecting the most popular themes of Renaissance culture. Our collection comprises of 29 madrigals by 29 madrigal composers, including many of the most significant Italian musicians of the time such as Giovanni Gabrieli, Felice Anerio and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina.

In our travels we have amassed a wonderful collection of folksongs and popular songs from numerous countries, many of which we use as encores when we visit. The influences and sources are extraordinary far-ranging, and each song has its own local characteristics. To celebrate the diversity of music that we perform and the numerous countries we visit each concert season, we have recorded an album of some of our favourite folksongs from around the world

The delivery is polished and each number is delivered in a slick, not-a-har-out-of-place fashion.
