Following the outstanding success of his complete Prokofiev Sonatas (released in three volumes over the past two years), Peter Donohoe has now released a two-CD slimline set of Scriabin’s Ten Piano Sonatas (Somm Records), ending with Vers la Flamme Op. 72, one of his last pieces for piano, written in 1914.

Peter’s last Scriabin album, from 2015, was described as ‘Jaw-droppingly virtuoso stuff’ by the Birmingham Post.

Alexander Scriabin was a unique figure in Russian music as he seemed to follow a musical path of his own that was completely different to that of either of his contemporaries. He created an original, exotic soundworld which progressed from Chopinesque romanticism in the First Sonata to a world of fantasy, inhabited by uncompromising, audacious dissonances in the later Sonatas which make overwhelming demands on any performer who dares to tackle them.

On 23rd April 2017 Peter will perform the complete Scriabin Sonatas in one sitting at Milton Court, the Barbican.

More information about the disc is available here.
