Peter Donohoe’s performance of Shostakovich’s Preludes and Fugues Volume 2 (13-24) at the Adrian Boult Hall is hailed as ‘one full of sound and fury’ in this five-star review from the Birmingham Post.
According to Norman Stinchcombe, Donohoe ‘can play dolce and cantabile with the best when required but his ability to reveal the macabre, disturbing and sinister aspects of the work impressed me most.’ Donohoe’s performance of Sonata 4 by Prokofiev also caused a stir, ending in a ‘cascade of notes’.
