Christmas comes early as Clare College Choir releases new festive CD

Lux de Caelo CD cover

The Choir of Clare College Cambridge has released a new CD which celebrates the legacy of European and British Carols in a Christmas programme.

The album, ‘Lux de Caelo: Music for Christmas’, has been released by harmonia mundi USA and consists of settings by Praetorius and Bach alongside later examples by Mendelssohn, Schoenberg, Britten and Tavener.
Under the direction of Graham Ross, the album sees Clare College Choir join with the Dmitri Ensemble to produce a festive programme which includes several world premiere recordings.

This is the latest CD in the choir’s much-celebrated series of works for the church year; previous CDs include ‘Stabat Mater Dolorosa: Music for Passiontide’ and ‘Veni Emmanuel: Music for Advent’, both of which were released earlier this year.

The choir has numerous concerts lined up to coincide with the launch of the CD, including a trip to the USA in December where they will perform at the Library of Congress, before returning to the UK for performances at the annual Christmas Festival at St John’s Smith Square and St Mary’s Church, Lamberhurst. The choir will also perform the programme in a series of concerts in the Netherlands in December.
