Stile Antico premiered their latest concert programme, ‘Divine Consolations: Music of reflection and hope by Bach and his predecessors’ this week at the Wigmore Hall. The programme marks the group’s first journey into the music of J.S. Bach, and Tuesday’s concert received critical acclaim.

Geoff Brown commented in The Times that “our spirits soared; they always do when Stile Antico break forth with European liturgical choral music… Bach’s epic motet Jesu, meine Freude took the crown, spinning from one vividly executed word picture to another in its tightly woven tapestry of chorale verses and biblical quotes. The singing in the chorale variation Gute Nacht, o Wesen particularly pierced the heart.”

Music OMH noted that “Stile Antico presented the audience with a musical garment of contrasting colours and textures”.
