Stile Antico’s ‘Journey of the Mayflower’ programme has been documented in a special music-drama video, which is now available to rent.
2020 marks the 400th anniversary of the sailing of the Pilgrims on the Mayflower. Their epic voyage in search of religious freedom was to have profound consequences for America and the wider world.
Stile Antico’s hour-long performance breathes life into the Pilgrims and the Mayflower crew. Interspersed with the spoken text are full-length performances of some of the finest vocal music of the time. Musical gems by William Byrd, Orlando Gibbons, Thomas Tomkins and others, bring this extraordinary story to life with passion and immediacy.
Stile Antico had planned a series of performances, workshops and education projects marking the anniversary throughout 2020, as part of the official Spirit of the Mayflower 400 programme, supported by funding from the National Lottery through Arts Council England.
