Graham Ross has been appointed the 2025 Musician in Residence by Friends of Scott Polar Research Institute. He will travel to Antarctica for a 5-week placement on board HMS Protector, the Royal Navy’s ice patrol ship, for a composition residency like no other. A focus of the residency will be the creation of a major new concert work about Antarctica which the BBC Singers will premiere in 2025.
“Travelling to Antarctica in January–February 2025, the Residency will give me an unparalleled opportunity to compose inspired by the remarkable yet fragile environment of this region… Immersed in the astonishing sounds and landscapes of Antarctica, I hope my new works will celebrate the continent’s natural beauty whilst highlighting the ever-increasing need to preserve it.”
