The Rainy Days Festival is currently on at the Philharmonie Luxembourg . It’s a 5-day festival which this year focuses on “Of resounding bodies and bodily sounds”, curated by composer Catherine Kontz-Växby: The 2025 festival chooses «bodies» as its theme. Bodies and physicality have always interested the arts. Especially in music, the subject is ambiguous, the idea that the body cannot do without spirit, nor the spirit without the body…
The Ligeti Quartet perform on Saturday (22nd) in a the concert called “4 hands, 8 hands”. It is an exploration of physicality and limitation, featuring works that connect hearing and movement, alongside pieces for string quartet performed with right hand only.
On the programme is:
- Angharad Davies – Four Preparations for String Quartet (premiere – Philharmonie commision)
- Tim Parkinson – Encore for string quartet for the right hand only (premiere)
- Catherine Kontz – III. Counterpoint for Clouds (breathing new life into it) (premiere)
- Michael Parsons – Levels for 16 open strings (premiere of version)
- John Lely – Meander Section
- Niels Rosing-Schow – String Quartet N° 1. Movements to Hear: in Your Body, in Your Ears, in Your Mind (premiere)
