Michael Collins and the Wigmore Soloists

On Monday 9th March, Michael Collins performs a recital at the Wigmore Hall with pianist Wu Qian with music by Cooke, Finzi, Martinů, Milhaud and Tailleferre. Continental connections run through the programme. It opens with Gerald Finzi’s quintessentially English Bagatelles, before embracing the Sonatina by Martinů, written in post-war New York yet infused with the vitality of pre-war Paris, and music by two members of Les Six. The programme ends with the lyrical Clarinet Sonata by Arnold Cooke, a Cambridge-educated Yorkshireman who studied with Paul Hindemith in Berlin in the 1920s.
