Tomorrow lunchtime, Guy Johnston and Melvyn Tan premiere the new piece for cello and piano by Matthew Kaner at London’s Wigmore Hall.
Hailed by BBC Music Magazine for his ‘far-reaching imaginative world’, Matthew Kaner titled his piece Dialogues, which has been commissioned by Guy Johnston and Melvyn Tan with support from the Hinrichsen Foundation and Vaughan Williams Foundation.
Guy and Melvyn frame the London-based composer’s work with two great 20th-century cello sonatas, opening with the multi-layered piece Britten wrote for Mstislav Rostropovich and closing with Samuel Barber’s remarkable early Sonata in C minor.
