Stuart Jackson is currently singing the role of Iro at Garsington Opera’s Summer 2026 production of Monteverdi’s Il Ritorno D’Ulisse.
Here are a selection of reviews from the production:
Opera Now
“if one can talk about show-stopping moments in an opera of this nature, here it would have to be Stuart Jackson’s searing delivery of Iro’s scene in Act 2 in which he anguishes over his future. Heart-rending, deeply affecting singing”
The Guardian
“Stuart Jackson, who, as the gourmandising Iro, can flounce with the best of them, almost wins you over with his mock-melancholy hunger aria”
Bachtrack
“the Shakespearian comic relief character of Iro turned into a highlight in the hands of Stuart Jackson”
Financial Times
“This production represents the best of the summer festival operas so far”
Music OMH
“Stuart Jackson created a more than usually sympathetic Iro.”
Seen and Heard International
“Stuart Jackson brings a commendably studied comic purpose – decidedly not caricature – as the court hanger-on Iro, heralding one monologue with an impressive messa di voce which incites some sympathy for the role.”
The Stage
“Stuart Jackson’s outrageous glutton Iro … deliver in spades”
The Times
“The bon viveur Iro (Stuart Jackson, winningly done) has a different design for living, suggesting that everyone ought to just get their kicks while they can”
More information about the production can be found on the Garsington Opera website. The opera will be on until 25th July 2026:
