Further praise for Peter Donohoe’s new Prokofiev disc (volume one) from Gramophone  saying that it is ‘long awaited’.  Reviewer Jed Distler says that ‘the best way to approach the First Sonata is to throw subtlety to the wind and simply play the hell out of it without banging. That’s precisely what Donohoe does here’. He goes onto note  ‘Donohoe’s impressively controlled soft staccato chords’ in the Third Sonata. ‘ The article concludes ‘with any luck we won’t have to wait 20 more years’ to hear the other sonatas recorded by Donohoe. He is in luck, Peter has recorded the entire collection and Somm Records will be releasing the next two discs over the next year.
