Four Ikon Arts–Edition Peters artists and composers feature in ‘Venus Unwrapped’ at Kings Place

London venue Kings Place’s theme for 2019 is Venus Unwrapped‘, and it features four Ikon Arts–Edition Peters artists and composers:

27th April: Stile Antico

Stile Antico will premiere a new programme ‘That most graceful melody’, which examines the power and influence of female rulers in the sixteenth century including Queen Mary I, Queen Elizabeth I and Margaret of Austria. The group also presents the first published music by female composers, and ends the programme with a new composition by Joanna Marsh.

28th April: Noriko Ogawa with the English Symphony Orchestra

Noriko Ogawa performs Mozart’s beautiful C major piano concerto to celebrate women in music at the solo piano, directed by Kenneth Woods.

28th November: Sacconi Quartet perform Judith Bingham

The Sacconi will perform the world premiere of a new string quartet by leading Edition Peters composer Judith Bingham. They will also perform Helen Grime’s String Quartet from 2014, alongside Rachmaninov’s sensuous Romance and Schubert’s dramatic and ever-popular Death and the Maiden quartet.

20th December: Brodsky Quartet and The Gesualdo Six perform Roxanna Panufnik

Edition Peters composer Roxanna Panufnik well be featured heavily in this concert by the Brodsky Quartet and Gesualdo Six, which will include her pieces Douai Missa Brevis, In Paradise and St Pancras Magnificat & Nunc Dimittis.

 

Venus Unwrapped, with over sixty events across twelve months and featuring more than one hundred composers, focuses on “the creative firepower of women composers”, aiming to “reclaim her-story in music and inspire the next generation”.
