Celebrated German composer Marco Hertenstein was a long-time friend of the painter Matthias Maaß. On 27th June, Hertenstein’s latest composition “New Pictures at an Exhibition” will be premiered by Freddy Kempf, Alexander von Hagke (saxophone) and Trio Ruscello at the Museum Haus Cajeth in Heidelberg, Germany.

Hertenstein has drawn inspiration from 27 of Maaß’s works for this piece, and the result is a musical cycle loosely based on Modest Mussorgsky’s “Pictures at an Exhibition” yet finding its own approach to the connection between sound and image.

The premiere is part of the current exhibition on Matthias Maaß at Haus Cajeth, which is on until 3rd July.
