Reviews —

Stuart Jackson, on the other hand, puts his imposing stature at the service of the nurse Arnalta, and if the humour of his last monologue is very effective, he also offers the audience a moment of grace in the lullaby Oblivion soave.

The Viennese audience will not soon forget this tenor. He formed the emotional centre of the production. With increasing intensity and empathy he described the biblical events, having the appropriate vocal colour and the necessary intensity for every situation and mood. For every connection, every break, Jackson – who took on the role at very short notice – found the right measure and made a lasting impression.

Die Presse

Stuart Jackson, as the Evangelist, serves up a complete contrast in graceful tenor splendour … Imagine that KS Michael Schade meets Jörg Schneider from the Vienna State Opera – voilà, and there you have this delicate voice, which also has the potential to cause a sensation.

“…while Stuart Jackson (Septimius) made Handel’s lines sound as inevitable as breathing, his phrasing exquisite.”

Handel: Theodora

The balance of Cohen’s vigorously confident singers and players allows him to make his ensemble a major character in the story...The soloists also play their parts, led by Louise Alder as the death-welcoming Theodora.

Monteverdi: L'incoronazione di Poppea

Alarcón and Cappella Mediterranea are experts at this repertoire and play with skill, commitment, energy and some innovative continuo devices to reflect, emphasise and punctuate the singers...I found this a Poppea worthy of its creators’ eternally modern genius.

Jommelli: Il Vologeso

The cast is excellent. Stuart Jackson, so impressive at this year’s Proms as the Evangelist in Bach’s St Matthew Passion, reveals all the facets of Verus’s troubled character...This is a fine achievement by The Mozartists and Ian Page.
