Rachmaninov’s Third Piano Concerto is widely regarded as one of the most challenging works in the repertoire, with profoundly symphonic conception and powerful melodic writing. It was made popular in the 1996 film Shine, which starred Geoffrey Rush, and based on the life of pianist David Helfgott.
Peter Donohoe CBE is acclaimed as one of the foremost pianists of our time, for his musicianship, stylistic versatility and commanding technique. In the years since his unprecedented success as Silver Medal winner of the 1982 7th International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow he has built an extraordinary world-wide career encompassing a huge repertoire and over forty years’ experience as pianist, performing with many of the world’s top orchestras and conductors.
Champion of British Music Martin Yates “one of the most exciting and versatile British conductors of his generation” (The Times), will conduct Scott’s Pelleas and Melisanda Overture and Leopold Stokowski’s exciting symphonic transcription of Mussorgsky’s Pictures at an Exhibition.
