On Saturday 9 May The King’s Singers made their Philippine debut as part of a special concert with the Philippine Madrigal Singers (MADZ). The groups performed to a full house in the magnificent Cultural Center of the Philippines, giving a varied programme which included an arrangement of a famous Philippine folk song, and music by Orlando Gibbons, John Morley and Debussy. Whilst in Manila, The King’s Singers also took the opportunity to give a workshop to local choirs.
The group maintain a blog whilst on the road, bass Jonathan Howard writing on it that:
“It’s such an honour to be here as guests of the Philippine Madrigal Singers. The calibre of their singing is exceptional… anything choral that happens in the Philippines must be extraordinarily good. Add to that the fact that everyone is just so unbelievably nice, and it’s a hard place to beat. Let’s hope we get to come back here soon.”
David Hurley followed with:
“Johnny was right in thinking that it was going to be a special concert with the Philippine Madrigal Singers. In fact, it was extra special, and the reaction from the audience was incredible…After the concert we went to a completely packed lobby to meet nearly every member of the sell-out public. It will be an evening I long remember. In fact, it was a stay to remember.”
