To coincide with his retirement from King’s College Cambridge, Stephen Cleobury has been honoured by the Queen. Sir Stephen said “I am profoundly honoured to have received this award. I have sought to nourish and support the precious choral tradition that we have in this country, and to be an advocate for the innumerable benefits of singing and choral music. Nothing I have achieved would have been possible without the outstanding singers with whom I have been so fortunate to work. It has been, truly, a privilege.”
“It’s an honour also for the whole activity of choral singing. To be a singer is a great thing; you use every aspect of your body. You use your physique, your brain and intellect, and you express your heart and emotions.”
Sir Stephen will continue to work as a conductor and organist following his retirement from King’s, making appearances in the UK and around the world.
